Identify your skin type

The first step towards getting beautiful skin is figuring out your skin type. There are five different types of skin, combination, oily, normal, dry or sensitive.  Most people misdiagnose themselves and as a result, end up using the wrong skin care regimen and products. Caring for the wrong skin type can aggravate skin, lead to acne, or even make your skin look older than it really is.

So here is an easy cheat sheet to help you pinpoint the correct category:

Combination skin:
The most common type of skin people have.  Combination skin can be dry or normal in some areas, and oily in the center part of your face, nose, chin and forehead (called the T-Zone) Combination skin can produce: Overly dilated pores, Blackheads, Shiny skin.

Oily skin:
Your face looks shiny, thick and dull colored. Chronically oily skin can lead to large pores, blemishes and acne flare-ups. Be wary of using skin care products that dry out the skin. If oily skin becomes dry, it will produce more oil.  Yes! skin can be oily and dehydrated at the same time.

Normal skin:
The ideal skin type has a clear supple and smooth even tone surface. Normal skin is usually without the dry flaky areas, greasy patches, and visible blemishes or pores. The neglect of proper skin care treatment can lead to signs of aging and wrinkles.

Dry skin:
A common skin condition characterized by a lack of appropriate amount of water in the most superficial layer of the skin. Dry skin can be associated with symptoms: including flaking, itching, dullness, redness, pain and tightness of the skin.

Sensitive skin:
The natural oils produced by the skin are reduced and the skin looses water. Sensitive skin has a low tolerance level to certain products or environmental conditions.
